Chester (Chet) Leroy Harris, 90, of Amarillo, went to be with his Lord on May 31, 2014
Services will be 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 3 at Washington Avenue Christian Church, 3800 S. Washington in Amarillo with Rev. Jim Shelburne officiating. Private burial for family only will follow.
Chet was born August 17, 1923 to Isaac & Jennie Harris in Newton, KS. He married Lois Marie Vestal on March 25, 1944 in Dodge City, KS; they recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Chet was self-employed for many years beginning in Dodge City, KS with Harris Auto Sales then with SH&H Mfg., in 1971 he relocated to Amarillo, Texas where he and his son co-owned Harris Custom Homes until his retirement. Chet had a deep love for his Lord and was a long standing member of Washington Avenue Christian Church.
Chet is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Lanna Lewis and 3 brothers, Virgil, Francis and Reuben Harris.
Chet is survived by his wife Lois, son Larry C. Harris & wife Claudia, daughter Lisa McGehee and husband DeLoyd (Dee) McGehee, all of Amarillo; grandchildren Olen Harris of Lubbock; Mike Harris of Amarillo; Jamie Harrington of Dallas; Eric Johnson & wife Erin of Forrest City, Iowa; Mark Johnson & wife Liz of Corinth, Texas; Jana Bateman & husband Mike of Amarillo; 12 great-grandchildren and numerous other
relatives and friends.
Family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 7 P.M. at Schooler Funeral Home located at 4100 South Georgia.
The family suggest memorials be made to the Washington Avenue Christian Church Building Fund at 3800 S. Washington, Amarillo, TX 79110 or the Animal Rescue Shelter at 12500 FM 1541, Amarillo, Texas 79118
