Christine Hughes, loving wife, mother and “Memolly” went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 9, 2012.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Lifeway Fellowship Baptist Church, 3315 Hancock, Amarillo, TX with Bro. Randy Davis and Pastor Stanley Hughes officiating. Burial will be at Llano. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia, Amarillo, TX.
Chris was born September 8, 1923 to Thorpe and Mary Williams in South Clovis, New Mexico. She graduated from high school in Clovis.
She married Leroy Hughes on June 24, 1942. While Leroy served overseas in the army during WWII, she worked as a clerk/typist at the Bureau of Aeronautics for the US Navy Department in San Diego, CA. After the war, she joined her husband in farming and ranching in Dalhart and later Hartley for over 50 years.
Chris was an avid seamstress, gardener, and canner. She loved to play games. Affectionately known as “Memolly” to her grandchildren, she taught all of them to play “zonk,” sequence and marbles (wahoo).
She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Lloyd Williams, Bert Williams, Nadine Grubelnik, Delia Fogland and Barbara Martin.
Chris is survived by her loving husband of 69 years (2 weeks shy of 70 years); her children, Barbara Morris; Beverly Robinson and husband Randal, Bryan Hughes and wife Laurie, all of Amarillo, Stanley Hughes and wife Jean of Richland, WA, and Tinna Hood and husband Benny of Gunter, TX; sixteen grandchildren, 30 ¾ great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
