Christine "Christy" Frances Schwertner

Christine Frances “Christy” Schwertner, 61, of Hereford, passed peacefully from this life and awakened in the Kingdom of Heaven on June 7, 2023.

A prayer vigil and rosary will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023, at 6 pm at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 115 N. 25 Mile Ave in Hereford. Memorial Mass will take place at the church on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 10 am with Rev. Grant Spinhirne presiding. Inurnment will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.

Christy was born in Hereford, Texas, on February 9, 1962, to Oskar William and Lorine Theresa (Schilling) Schwertner. She was a graduate of Hereford High School and a lifelong resident of Hereford, Texas.

Christy was a caring and loving person. She volunteered at St. Anthony’s church for many years, where she also was a faithful and devoted member. Christy enjoyed puzzles and card games, especially UNO. When she wasn’t playing games, she could often be found enjoying a good book. She was an animal lover as well. It didn’t really matter the animal; she greatly loved them all.

Christy is survived by her brother Dale Schwertner, sisters Roxann Schwertner, Connie Wilson, Eileen Womack, and Lori Martin and husband Tommy, nieces Monica Bates and husband Justin, Alisha Womack, and Anna Martin, and nephew Derrick Martin, as well as many loving extended family members and dear friends. The family would also like to extend a huge thank you to the parishioners of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and the wonderful medical staff of the nursing home that cared for and befriended Christy. Your kindness and care are greatly appreciated.

In lieu of flowers, the family recommends a monetary donation or donation of books and other literature be donated to the St. Anthony’s Catholic School Library of Hereford or your local library in honor of Christine “Christy” Frances Schwertner.
