Connie R. Neel, 79, of Amarillo, suddenly went to meet her Jesus on Tuesday, October 4, 2016.
Services will be held on Wednesday, October 12th ¬¬¬¬at 11:00 AM at St. Stephen United Methodist Church with Dr. Stan Cosby and Dr. Jim Smith officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery immediately following the service. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia Street.
Connie was born on December 14, 1936 in Dodge City, Kansas to Raymond and Cecil Hunter. Their family moved to Lubbock, TX during her childhood. Connie graduated from Lubbock High School in 1954. While in high school, Connie was a pianist for her church and worked at her father’s grocery store.
Connie married the love of her life, Harry Eugene Neel December 18, 1955. They were married for 56 years. Connie was a stay-at-home mom and home-maker to their three children: Paul, Scott and Cathy.
Much of Connie’s life was dedicated to loving and serving others. She was a member of the Methodist Women at St. Stephen’s Church, served on the homebound ministry committee, crocheted hundreds of hats for the homeless, was a shepherd in her Sunday School class, a member of the STAR choir, and a part of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.
Connie’s greatest love was for her Jesus. She was a dedicated prayer warrior and faithful student of God’s Word. When she prayed, things happened. Connie was a member of Thursday Bible Study for more than 25 years and served on the leadership team many times.
Connie’s greatest joy came in her family. She was known as “Mom” and “Mimi” to countless men and women who showed up on her front porch. Connie supported every extracurricular activity her children participated in. Family was everything. Connie’s grandchildren were her pride and joy. The answer was always “Yes!” when you asked Mimi.
Connie’s legacy can be found in Proverbs 31. Her love and care for others was a reflection of her heart and everything she believed in. One’s life was changed, for the better, when they met Connie.
Connie had many hobbies. She could often be found in the kitchen, perfecting dinner or her baked goods. Connie loved music and spent countless hours listening to CD’s and playing the piano. She loved her animals. Connie’s favorite place to visit was the mountains of New Mexico. Many of her paintings reflected this love. Connie spent many hours quilting, a true labor-of-love.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the paramedics of Cleveland, TX; the nurses and doctors at the Herman Memorial Hospital Cardiovascular Center; and the many people who diligently prayed for and supported Connie and her family.
The family will receive guests at the funeral home today from 6:00-7:00 p.m.
