Dale W. Schwertner, 71, of Hereford, entered the Gates of Heaven on September 26, 2024, and his parents and sister eagerly greeted him.
A rosary will be on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at 6:00 PM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hereford, Texas. The Mass will be on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 10:30 AM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. The celebrant will be Rev. John Valdez of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Amarillo. Inurnment will follow the Mass. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia, in Amarillo.
Dale was born in Slaton, Texas, to Oskar and Lorine (Schilling) Schwertner on December 11, 1952. He graduated from Hereford High School and retired from Arrowhead Mills after twenty years on January 1, 2019, at 66.
Dale loved reading military literature, especially WWII, and had a passion for chocolate, Mexican food, and pumpkin pie! Perhaps his greatest love was keeping in touch with family and friends through Facebook. He loved sharing funny jokes with others that he had read on Facebook. Dale had a huge heart full of joy and love, and although it could be said he loved many things, his greatest love was the love he held for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Christine "Christy" Schwertner.
Dale is survived by his four sisters, Roxann Schwertner of Amarillo, Connie Wilson of McKinney, Eileen Womack of Dimmit and Lori Martin and her husband Tommy of Amarillo; his nieces and nephews, Monica Bates and her husband Justin, Alisha Womack Wilhelm and her husband Matthew, Derrick Martin and Anna Martin; and by his great nephews, Jaxton and Beckett Bates.
A special thank you to the parishioners of St. Anthony's who were so faithful in looking after and caring for Dale throughout his life, especially Deacon Gerald Marnell, Denise, their family and David Wagner.
The family suggests memorials be made in memory of Dale at St. Antony's Catholic Church. 115 N 25 Mile Avenue, Hereford, Texas 79045
