Dale Williams

September 8, 1927 — February 11, 2017

Dale A. Williams, 89, of Amarillo died February 11, 2017.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, in Llano East cemetery with Bob Crass officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia Street, Amarillo, Texas.

Mr. Williams was born in Perryton, Texas, on September 8, 1927, to John A. and Mallie Archer Williams.  As a young boy, the family moved to Pampa for a brief time and then to Amarillo when he was about 4 years old.  He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1945.  Dale was smitten with Joan Byers as the high school kids enjoyed Friday night cruising along 16th Street near the old Kirk's Pharmacy.

Dale enrolled in Amarillo College expecting to be called into service during World War II.  With the war ending, Dale was selected as captain of the AC Badger basketball team and graduated with an associate’s degree. Dale soon enrolled in the University of Texas at Austin, and completed a degree in business. Aspiring to become an attorney, Dale was accepted into law school at SMU, (Southern Methodist University), in Dallas.  Joan soon followed Dale to SMU and they married at Amarillo Country Club on September 4, 1948.  Dale was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Amarillo for over 80 years and taught its "Dale Williams’ Young Marrieds Class” for decades. He loved the Lord and was a respected Biblical scholar.  Dale was a charter board member of Tascosa Country Club and a long-time member of Amarillo Country Club.  He was thrilled to fly his plane, play golf and visit their mountain cabin retreat in Colorado.  Dale was an exceptional attorney and proficient in real estate development, banking and was highly recognized for his prudent investing skills.

Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, on September 3, 2003, and a daughter, Alicia Williams Brown, on September 28, 2001.  He is survived by a daughter, Karen L. Williams, of Amarillo, and niece, Scala D. Byers, of Dallas.

The family suggests memorials be to High Plains Children's Home and Family Services, Inc., 11461 S. Western Street, Amarillo, Texas, 79118.
