Dan “Danny” Howard Dohoney, 71, of Amarillo, passed away on July 19 th ,
2023 at home in the comfort of his wife’s arms.
Memorial services will be held at 3pm July 23, 2023 at Schooler Funeral
Home.
Dan was born in Canadian, TX to Roy and Betty Dohoney on December 21,
1951. He went to school at Amarillo High School and also attended
Amarillo College. He married Jo~Ann Smotherman on May 23, 1975 in
Amarillo, TX at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He worked for Santa Fe
Railroad, Jack B Kelley Trucking, and was self-employed as a master
craftsman and general contractor. He was his daughter’s softball coach, his
son’s hockey coach, and a timekeeper for the Amarillo Rattlers Hockey
Club. He was also an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents Roy and Betty Dohoney and his two
brothers Royce Dohoney of Austin, TX and Scott Dohoney of Amarillo, TX.
Dan is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jo~Ann Dohoney. His daughter
Desiree Dohoney of Amarillo, TX. His son Miles Dohoney and daughter-in-
law Gina Dohoney of Austin, TX. His three beautiful grandchildren Porter
Elliot Dohoney, Emily Adeline Dohoney, and Gwyneth Molly Marie
Dohoney. His three nieces Berkeley Claxton of Austin, TX, Morgan Smith
of Austin, TX, and Allison Allen of Cave Creek, AZ and his nephew Jason
Paul Dohoney of Phoenix, AZ.
The family of Dan wishes to extend our sincere thanks to BSA Hospice of
the Southwest and his amazing hospice nurse, Ann Rahlfs. In lieu of flowers,
the family asks for donations to be made to Crown of Texas Hospice
Foundation (Attn: BSA Hospice of the Southwest).
