Darrell Lee Goodin

Darrell L. Goodin, 82, of Amarillo, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2016 in Amarillo.

A Rosary will be said at 6:30 PM Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM Friday, October 7, 2016 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 4100 S. Coulter St., Amarillo, TX 79109 with Rev. John Valdez as celebrant. Burial will follow at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.

Darrell was born on December 8, 1933 in Armstrong County to Cecil ‘Shorty’ and Lucille Goodin.  After graduating from Claude High School, he completed Draughn’s Business School.  He worked in the banking industry, State Chemical Co. and retired from Great West Telephone Directories in 2000.  Darrell married Janice Bellah at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on April 29, 1961.  They were blessed with three children; Mark, Lynn and Renee.  Darrell was a loyal follower of his children’s activities and served as president of their PTA during the school days.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling, dancing and playing games (except for Pictionary).  He was a devoted Cowboy fan, win or lose.  Darrell joined the Knights of Columbus Council #1450 in 1965.  He served as financial secretary for 19 years and was a lifetime member.  He received the Boss of the Year Award by the Top O’ Texas Chapter American Business Women’s Association for the 1980-1981 year. Darrell was a member of the Senior Citizen Wednesday Bridge Club.  He was a founding member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Clyde Goodin.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Janice Goodin of the home; one son, Mark Goodin and Kay Harris of Austin; two daughters, Lynn Nelson and husband David of Amarillo and Renee Bowling of Houston; one brother, Gail Goodin and wife Mertes of Claude; one sister, Allean Patterson of Claude; one granddaughter, Caroline Goodin of Greenville, SC; two grandsons, Daniel and Andrew Bowling of Houston; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
