David R. Brown, 71, of Amarillo died Tuesday, August 16, 2016 in Amarillo.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, August 22, 2016 at Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel with Scott Rankin officiating. Burial will be at 1:00 PM Friday, August 26, 2016 in the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
David was born on August 25, 1944 to Jack and Joy Brown. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1962 and attended the University of Texas for one year before joining the U.S. Navy where he served for seven years on nuclear submarines. David married Mary Kane on September 30, 1967 in Charleston, SC. He went on to graduate from New Mexico State University with a Bachelors in Engineering. David worked for Texas Instruments for 18 years and then Lockheed Martin in Marietta, GA for 15 years before retiring and settling in Amarillo. He was very active in bowling and community service work. As well as volunteering in PGA Golf Tournaments in Atlanta, GA. David was a friend of Bill W. He had a servant’s heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a nephew Daniel Winstead.
David is survived by his wife, Mary Brown of the home; two sisters, Karen Fielder and husband Richard of DeSoto, TX and Beth Winstead and husband Dwayne of Ovilla, TX; one sister-in-law Patti Kane Carreiro of Bedford; four brother-in-laws, George Kane and wife Elan of Oregan, Michael Kane and wife July of Aurora, IL, Martin Kane and wife Kathy of Colorado Springs, CO and Joe Kane of Las Cruces, NM; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Downtown Women’s Shelter, c/o the Downtown Women’s Center, 409 S. Monroe St., Amarillo, TX 79101.
