David E. Ferguson, age 68, of Amarillo, passed away in Amarillo on August 15, 2023.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel, 4100 South Georgia. His brother, Dan Ferguson, and his two best friends: Mickey Annen and Dennis Powell will act as honorary pallbearers.
David was born October 12, 1954, in Amarillo to Charles and Katherine Looper Ferguson. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1974, attended the local vo-tech where he was certified as an auto-mechanic and served in the US Air Force.
While David started his career as a mechanic, he spent the majority of his career working for the City of Amarillo and ultimately retiring from the Potter County Road and Bridge Department, where he worked for ten years prior to his retirement.
He had a love of motorcycles (particularly Harley Davidsons) and cars, especially older models. He had a talent for rebuilding and bringing them back to life, although a few unfinished projects were lying around…. he just needed a couple of more days! He taught his children the importance of building something from nothing, creating things from what you had, and if it was worth having, it was worth working for. David was proud of both of his children in their own ways.
The family was important to David, and although theirs was somewhat unconventional, like many families, he worked hard to keep in touch and let those he cared about know he loved them. He was fun-loving and rather ornery. David had a wry sense of humor, but to know him was to love him and that was evident in how he made friends everywhere he went.
David loved his classic rock and roll and rebellious motorcycle spirit, but David learned to be “country” from Mindy. She enjoyed teaching him how to garden, and they shared a mutual love for cats and time spent together.
He attended Lifeway Fellowship Church, and was preceded in death by his parents.
David is survived by his son, Clint Ferguson; daughter Carrie Corbin and her husband, Matt Bayne of Dallas, TX; his partner in life, Mindy Greenwood; two sisters, Cheryl Carter and her husband, Bob Petty of Kerrville, TX, and Tommi Ferguson and her husband, Scott Blackwood of Roanoke, VA; a brother Dan Ferguson and his wife Su of North Carolina; and three grandchildren, Bailey Chancellor, June Bayne, and Caroline Bayne.
