David Ehly, 74, of Amarillo, passed away September 10, 2021.
Rosary will be said at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, September 16, 2021 St. Thomas Catholic Church, 4100 S. Coulter St. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 17, 2021 at the church. Interment will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.
David was born July 24, 1947 in Dimmit, Texas to Leo and Amma Ehly. He was raised in Nazareth, TX, graduating high school in 1966. He married his high school sweetheart Yvonne Huseman in 1968. Shortly after, he was drafted into the United States Army and served his country in the Vietnam War. David was honorably discharged in 1970, and went on to attend Amarillo College and West Texas State University where he received a degree in diesel mechanics. He worked as a mechanic until his retirement from Randall County Sherriff’s Office in 2013.
“Papa” as he was affectionately known by his grandchildren was an avid fisherman, domino player, and loved watching his grandchildren play sports. David and Yvonne frequently traveled together whenever they could, visiting family, friends, and having new adventures together. He loved hosting large holiday gatherings in his home, and made everyone feel welcome and loved. David had a servant’s heart, and loved the Lord as he compassionately helped those around him. He served his community in many roles throughout his lifetime.
David was a member of Knights of Columbus, Father Dunn Assembly and 4th Degree #1090. He was also a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church.
David is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Ehly. his son, Brent Ehly and wife, Heather of Phoenix, AZ; daughter, Krista Artley and Husband Matthew of Amarillo, TX; 2 grandchildren, Kaylee and Tyler Mays; 1 great-grandchild, Carter Mays
