David Michael Worthen

David Michael Worthen, 71, of Amarillo, died Monday, August 15, 2016.

Memorial services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, August 18 at Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.

David was born September 29, 1944 in Altus, OK to Clifford and Thelma Lou Worthen. He graduated from Clinton High School in Oklahoma and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Oklahoma Baptist University and then a Master’s degree in social work from St. Louis University.  He married Mary Ann Phillips in Shawnee, OK on May 28, 1966.  Upon graduating from graduate school, David worked with Children’s Protective Services and as a consultant through several years for the Catholic Family Services, the Amarillo Police Dept. and Air Traffic Controllers.  He also had a private practice as a MSW-LCP for ten years.
David was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy and finished his career as a case manager and social worker at the V. A. hospital.  While in this role, he was honored to assist P.O.W. s from WWII, Vietnam and forward.  David was also active in the community as an assistant Scout Master for BSA Troop 80 and taught bible school for many years at St. Paul United Methodist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

David is survived by his wife Mary Ann Worthen; his daughter, Stephanie Rosas and husband, Michael of Hereford; his son, Christopher Worthen of Chicago; his sister, Dayna Worthen-Reynolds and husband, Charles of Amarillo; and his three grandchildren, Todd Parker Goforth, Taylon Shea Rosas, and Katherine Skye Worthen.
