Rev. Deacon Floyd Allen Ashley

April 15, 1944 — February 12, 2015

Rev. Deacon Floyd Allen Ashley passed away February 11, 2015, in Amarillo.

Rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 13, 2015 at St. Mary’s Cathedral.  A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral.  Inurnment will be held at 2:00 p.m. in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.

Deacon Ashley was born April 15, 1944.  He held many jobs throughout his life.  He worked through high school as a shoe salesman.  He obtained the rank of Detective Sergeant with the Amarillo Police Department.  He was a truck driver for ICX, sold insurance for Prudential and worked at Baldwin Transport.  He was baptized into the Catholic Church in January 1992 and became a Deacon in 2000.  He began working for the Diocese of Amarillo in 2001 as the executive assistant to Bishop John Yonta then Bishop Patrick Zurek.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus #1450 and the Fourth Degree Assembly #1090.  He was also on several community boards including the Downtown Women’s Center and Catholic Family Services.

Deacon Ashley was a great man of faith.  He kept everyone smiling and laughing with his stories and jokes.  He was always there for his family and anyone in need.  His warm smile will always be remembered.  Other than his wife, children and family, serving the church was of the utmost importance in his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Dimple Ashley and son Donny Hutton.

Deacon Ashley is survived by his wife of 31 years, Susan Stalter Ashley; a sister Beverly Davis of Dallas; sons John T. Ashley and David Ashley and wife Shauna of Amarillo; daughters Jessica A. Guzman and husband Enrique and JoLynn Hutton of Amarillo; daughter-in-law Christy Hutton; father-in-law Rev. Msgr. Calvin Stalter; grandchildren Grace, Katie, Sara, Samantha, Eric, Deidre, Joshua, Ashley, Gabrielle, Tuff, Erika, Drake, Augustus and Kaden; 6 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way; and his beloved dog Francis Harold Patrick Ashley.
