Deborah Kay Finck, “Debbie”
(January 23, 1960-April 23, 2014)
Graveside services will be held on Monday, April 28th at 10:00 AM at Memory Gardens Cemetery, I-27 and McCormick. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of First Baptist Church in Amarillo. Dr. Howard K. Batson will officiate. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Debbie was the first child of William and Carolyn Kelley.
She was raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee and Amarillo, Texas.
After returning to Amarillo in 1973 and attending Amarillo Schools,
she enlisted in the Air Force in 1978 and was honorably
discharged in 1980. On October 9, 1982 she married Bryce Finck
and had a daughter, Ashley Nicole Finck. Debbie graduated from Amarillo
College in 1988 and WTAMU in 1992 with a degree in Social Work.
She was a licensed Social Worker and had the drive and the heart
to serve the underserved people of Amarillo. She worked for NWTH System,
Caremor Health Services and Finck’s Home Medical. She believed in
excellent care for her patients regardless of their ability to pay.
Debbie loved NASCAR, Green Bay Packers, family, friends and
animals and rarely in that order. Debbie was known for keeping up with
her friends she met online and at the Texas Motor Speedway, enjoying
family functions and raising abandoned animals. It wasn’t uncommon to
see an owl, opossum, squirrels or sparrows in Debbie’s care.
She is proceeded in death by her father William Edward Kelley,
her grandparents Robert Carroll and Imia Mae Sansing, and her stepson
Nish Miles Nishiyama.
Debbie is survived by her boyfriend of 25 years Nish Nishiyama,
her parents Terry and Carolyn Stroud, her daughter Ashley and boyfriend
Tony, her brother Eddy Kelley and his wife Kathy, her sister Tera Stroud, her stepdaughter Nasha and boyfriend Jeremy, her aunt Kay Ford and uncle
Karl, her uncle Robert Sansing and aunt Bonnie, and her nieces Kirsten Kelley and boyfriend Matt, Erin Kelley and boyfriend Zach, her grandsons Dominic Dorsey, Darien Gonzales, Jaylen Miller, her cousins Bobby Ford of Mobeetie and Karl Ford of Pennsylvania, her special friend and mentor Dr. Richard Chandler, and her best friend for over forty years, Terri Montgomery.
For the last 6 months, she faced improbable odds with a smile and a
graceful blend of fear, hope, tears, sarcasm, and love for those near to her
heart. Death may have stolen her from this world but it cannot claim her because
Debbie gave herself to us. In our hearts and in our memories, she lives forever.
The family would like to thank the staff of BSA Hospice and Amarillo VA Hospital for their unwavering support and assistance during this difficult time, especially Debbie’s nurse
Wendy Fruscella and home-aid Henvyka Gibaszek and her doctor, Dr. Daniel Jenkins.
The family suggests memorials be to the Amarillo Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals 11901 S Coulter, Amarillo, Texas 79119.
