Mrs. Healy was born July 28, 1912, in Prague, OK where she and her family lived until she was seven years old. At that time the family of ten children moved from Prague to Edmond, OK to be near a teachers’ college; she graduated from that college that is now the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.
She taught school for 36 years beginning her career during the depression in a one room country school teaching all eight grades. Mrs. Healy spent most of her teaching career in Amarillo’s Avondale Elementary School teaching second grade. During WWII, she taught four years at Amarillo Air Force Base where she met her husband of 53 years, Joseph J. Healy, who was an Air Force combat engineer.
She was a dedicated Methodist attending San Jacinto Methodist Church for many years and supported the church with her gift of teaching. She taught Sunday school classes most of her adult life, was sought for her interesting book reviews, which were a big source of entertainment and fund raising, especially before TV, held offices in many teachers’ associations, was a lifelong member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an avid bridge player, and a devoted wife and mother. Mrs. Healy had resided in Enid, OK the past two years to be near her son and his family.
She and her husband had a loving son, Patrick Joe Healy, and a special daughter, Mary Beth Reece. Mr. Healy preceded her in death; survivors include her son, Pat, and his wife, Sheila, of Enid, OK, her daughter, Mary Beth, and her husband , Al, of Dallas, TX; two grandchildren, Trish Healy of Norman OK and Tim Healey of Edmond, OK, niece Randa Gonzales of Dallas, TX, and nephew Mickey Hill of Shawnee, OK, a special grand niece Megan Webers, of San Diego, CA, and several great nieces and nephews.
