Viewing will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia St. A celebration of life service will be Thursday at 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Groom with the Rev. Shawn Barnard as celebrant. Private family interment will be in Groom Cemetery.
Mrs. Vaughn was born July 26, 1974, in Temple, Texas to Curtis and Dondra Downs of Groom. She moved frequently as her father, Curtis Downs, served a career in the Army. She was baptized on Easter Sunday in 1981 by her Great Grandfather and continued living a life for the Lord until her death. Mrs. Vaughn graduated from Papillion-LaVista High School in Omaha, Nebraska in 1992. She furthered her education, receiving her Bachelor’s in 1997 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Business Education. In 2000 Mrs. Vaughn received her Trainers Institute and Certificate in Training from Bellevue University.
On July 20, 2002, Denai Vaughn married her other half, Tim Vaughn, in Omaha, Nebraska. Their daughter, 6-year-old Victoria Vaughn, was born in March 2005.
Mrs. Vaughn touched the lives of thousands in her short time. She was a friend to all she encountered and believed that giving truly was better than receiving. She was an amazing wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She shared her relationship with the Lord to all who would listen and made an imprint on people everywhere she went. Mrs. Vaughn was an inspirational business leader, professional speaker, author, radio show host, and coach. She was known by many as the “WOOHOO!!!” girl, and found the positive in every situation she encountered. She taught others through her workshops, seminars, and coaching how to grow in business, but more importantly how to grow in life. She was a light to all who knew her, as is evident by the hundreds of posts written by friends and family on her social media pages following her death.
Mrs. Vaughn left her family with no doubt of her love for them. She was determined to live every day with thanks and focused on each moment, knowing life is fragile. In one of her many training videos she said, “We aren’t promised tomorrow, but we do have today. Live a life that outlives your life.” Denai Vaughn did just that. Her life will continue to ripple on, like a stone dropped into a pond, long after her death.
She was preceded in death by grandparents, a brother (Curt), seven heavenly children, and a sister-in-law (Suni Stolp).
Mrs. Vaughn is survived by her husband, Tim Vaughn, and daughter Victoria Vaughn, of Groom; her parents Curtis and Dondra Downs, of Groom; a brother, Collin Downs, aunts, uncles, nieces and cousins, and a host of other family and close friends.
