Dennis Francis Sweeney, age 81 of Amarillo, died May 19, 2015 in Amarillo.
A Rosary service will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, May 21 at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel.  A memorial mass will be said at 10:00 AM on Friday May 22 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with the Rev. John Valdez celebrant and Monsignor Harold Waldow concelebrant.  Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Dennis was born on May 8, 1934 in Fairbury, NE to Earl and Florence Sweeney.  He graduated from St. Mary’s in Grand Island, NE and went on to attend Creighton University in Omaha, NE.  He then served in the United States Army. Dennis met the love of his life, Mary Broderson and they were married on August 6, 1960.
He worked as a United States Border Patrolman for twenty-five years before serving as a United States Court Bailiff for the Federal Court in Amarillo. He was a faithful member to Alcoholics Anonymous for thirty-eight years and a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Florence.
He is survived by  his wife Mary; his daughters, Kathryn Dufroff and husband Max and Susan Cates and husband Russell Cates; two sons, Patrick and Michael Sweeney; his two grandchildren, Sarah and Dustin; and by his furry friends, Claire, Gus and Baby Kitty.
