Denton W. Harral, age 79 of Amarillo completed his earthly journey and went home to be with his Lord on December 11, 2012.
Services will be on Friday, December 14th at 2:00 PM in Washington Avenue Christian Church with the Rev. Jim Shelburne officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Denton was born September 2, 1933 in Amarillo to W.D. and Audrey Harral. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1952. He attended Amarillo College before serving in the Army for two years. He married Janelle Van Valkenburg on August 23, 1958.
Denton worked for the State Comptroller’s office and retired from Diamond Shamrock in 1988. He worked for several plumbing shops in Amarillo and was always willing to give advice on plumbing problems. He came from a long line of carpenters and remodeled three houses between the ages of 66 and 71, basically by himself.
He was a long time member of Washington Avenue Christian Church where he served as an elder and teacher of Thee Fellowship Class. Denton had a strong faith and was an example to all who met him. He was a wonderful husband, dad, and grandpa and loved to help other people.
Denton was preceded in death by his wife, Janelle, with whom he shared 52 years; his parents and his beloved dog, Bear.
He is survived by two daughters, Becky Cogburn and husband Clay of Happy and Mary Ellen McHaney and husband, Rex of Amarillo; a grandson Colt Cogburn of Happy; a cousin Ray Urton and wife Rita; a sister-in-law, Joyce Nelson; a niece and four nephews.
The family wishes to thank BSA Hospice for their compassionate care of Denton during his stay there.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 13, 2012 at the funeral home.
