Dev G. Harsh

July 28, 1942 — October 31, 2021

Dev G. Harsh age 79 of Amarillo died October 31, 2021 in Amarillo.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 3rd at 1:30 PM at Washington Avenue Christian Church. Rev. Jim Shelburne pastor of Washington Avenue Christian Church and Rev. John Phillips, pastor of Christ Church of the Valley in Brownsville, Texas will officiate.  A private family interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.

Dev was born July 28, 1942, in Zanesville, Ohio to Cecil M. and Sally Factor Harsh.  He graduated Zanesville HS and went on to receive a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio.  His career would span over the next fifty plus years and take him from Colorado Springs to Omaha, Nebraska to Houston, Texas and then to Amarillo.  He worked for Exxon, CIG, Northern Natural Gas, Enron serving as Senior Vice President of Engineering and BP.

He married Suzanne Lown and together the couple raised two incredible daughters, Kirsten, and Kathleen. Their marriage lasted over forty years until the time of Suzanne’s death on March 12, 2012.

Dev found love again and married Melanie Ramsey on July 6, 2013 in South Padre Island.  Together the couple shared a love of spoiling grandkids, playing golf, and adopting animals.

He was a multifaceted individual and loved to ride Harleys and had a passion for muscle cars, especially vintage corvettes, which he restored.  Although he did have a passion for things with motors, that passion paled in comparison to the love he had for his family, especially his grandchildren.  He cherished time spent with them.

Dev was preceded in death by his parents and by his first wife, Suzanne.

He is survived by his wife, Melanie of the home; his two daughters, Kirsten Mills and her husband Russell of Warsaw, Indiana and Kathleen Holverson and her husband Gary of Frisco, Texas; two step-sons, Russ McCarty and his wife Halley of Spring, Texas and Brad McCarty and his wife Aly of Baltimore, Maryland; a brother, Doug Harsh and his wife Diane of Zanesville, Ohio; and his six precious grandchildren, Erin, Sarah, Emily, Jacob, Jace and Tilly.

The family would like to thank the ICU staff at BSA for their excellent care given to Dev especially Gilbert Torres, Dr. Tilahun Belay and Dr. William Petersen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Washington Avenue Christian Church Family Service Center 3800 S. Washington Street Amarillo, Texas 79110, or your favorite charity.
