Don G. York, 73, of Amarillo, died Monday, March 26, 2012. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, March 31 in the Craig Retirement Center Chapel. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Mr. York was born November 4, 1938 in Cushing, OK to Don and Chleo York. He attended high school at Borger High School, and later went on to Frank Phillips College, and University of El Paso. Don married Linda Blackman September 5, 1964 in Phillips, TX, and they were married 47 years. He worked for the telephone company for 27 years retiring in 1995. Don served in the US Navy aboard the USS Purvis. Don was a resident of Washington State for 40 years, and has resided in Amarillo the past five years.
Mr. York helped with many Scout troops and was a Scout in high school. Don enjoyed model trains; working with stained glass, wood working including, unfinished furniture that he sold on weekends. He also enjoyed traveling and his trips to Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.
Don is survived by his wife Linda, a son Don B. York and wife Manuela of Renton, WA, and a granddaughter Marissa York.
