Donald Leo Detten, 87, of Amarillo died October 15, 2018.
Rosary will be said at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, October 18, 2018 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 4100 S. Coulter St. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 19, 2018 at the church with Rev. John Valdez as celebrant. Private burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, Amarillo.
Donald was born June 1, 1931 in Carson County to Leo Frances and Clara Metcalf Detten. Donald graduated from Panhandle High School in 1948. He then married Peggy Dolores Hoelting on February 6, 1951 in Amarillo. He was a farmer and rancher in Armstrong County until his retirement. Donald was a member of St. Francis and St. Thomas Catholic Churches, Texas Farm Bureau and St. Thomas Men’s Club.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Terry Donald; grandson, Coby Joe Detten; 3 brothers, Lawrence, Floyd and Ralph; and sister, Rose Mary Tuggle.
Donald is survived by son, Kenneth Detten and wife Diane of Claude; 3 daughters, Donna Britten and husband Fred of Panhandle, Peggy Zamora and husband Mike of Panhandle, and Connie Lopez and husband Chris of Amarillo; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Paul Detten and wife Evelyn of Panhandle; and 5 sisters, Anna Marie Wink of Amarillo, Blanche Koetting of Salina, Kan., Gladys Looten of Amarillo, Alice Kuehler of Groom, and Irene and husband Ashby Lewis of Panhandle.
