DONALD “DON” FRANK GOFORTH, age 81 of Amarillo died January 21st in Amarillo.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 3:00 PM at Polk Street United Methodist Church. Rev. Kevin Deckard will officiate. A private burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Don was born in Wellington, Texas to Earl Richard and Mary Lois Goforth on October 20, 1933. The family moved to Amarillo in 1935 Don was in the 1952 graduating class of Amarillo High School. He went on to attend Texas Tech and West Texas State University before graduating from LaSalle University with a B.S. in Real Estate.
Don was a realtor for over 68 years. He became a broker in 1984 and founded Goforth and Associates. He was a member of the Board of Realtors for over fifty years and held licenses in both Texas and New Mexico.
Don cherished the time spent with family and friends at the cabin in Red River. Many wonderful memories were made there.
After the death of Eva in 1991; he married Annette in 2001. The two enjoyed each other’s company and had the opportunity to travel throughout the United States and Canada as members of the WBCCI (Wally Byam Caravan Club International). Don even served as president of the club for two terms.
Don was a member of Polk Street United Methodist since coming to Amarillo and served on the board of Trustees and was a faithful member of the Aldersgate Sunday School Class.
The family will receive guest at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5:30 until 6:30 PM
Don was preceded in by his parents, his first wife Eva, by a daughter, Lynne; and three brothers, Dick, Elmer and Earl Goforth.
He is survived by his wife Annette; his son Lance Goforth of Amarillo. Don is also survived by the family he joined upon his marriage to Annette including DeeAnn Osteen and her husband Buddy, Tucker Ostenn and his wife Jennifer, Kelle Wells and her husband Michael and their respective families and Hanna Osteen.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Eva Goforth Scholarship Fund at Polk Street United Methodist Church, 1401 South Polk 79101
