Donald L. Moore, 85 of Amarillo died October 14, 2017. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia in Amarillo. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Paramount Baptist Church, 3801 South Western in Amarillo.
Donald Loel Moore was born on July 21, 1932 in Forsan, Texas to parents Adeline and Orville Moore. He lived in Grand Falls and Kermit Texas where he participated in all sports. He gave his life to Jesus Christ at a young age and served the Lord all his life. He graduated from Kermit High School in 1950. He attended San Angelo College and Texas Tech University, where he graduated in 1960 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He served four years in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War, serving one and one-half years in England.
He married the love of his life Donna Nall Moore on February 3, 1952. The couple lived in San Angelo, Texas; Denver, Colorado; Lubbock and Amarillo Texas.
He was a transmission engineer for Southwestern Public Service Company for 26 years before being promoted to Purchasing Manager for eight years. His S.P.S. friends were like family along with his church and Gideon friends.
He was an active member of Paramount Baptist Church where he was a deacon, Sunday School teacher of High School Senior boys and College Co-Ed classes for many years, a member of Gideons, Fellowship Class, and Men’s Thursday Morning Bible study. And, he was a member of Texas Professional Engineers. He worked with his son David’s Boy Scout Troop, and enjoyed golf and snow skiing at Angel Fire, New Mexico, which he did until he was over 80-years old. For 20 years after retiring, he and Donna escorted travel tours in the United States and abroad making many new friends.
Don’s primary goal was to reflect the love of Christ. He especially loved going to the Juvenile Detention Center on Sunday afternoons, sharing the plan of salvation and handing out Gideon Bibles to the young men and women. He participated in Bible distributions to the middle school, high school, and Amarillo College students. Don loved all sports, but football was his favorite. He could often be found watching his favorite Texas Tech Red Raiders along with many other teams
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Adeline Moore, his father and mother-in-law, Jack and Stella Nall, his sister LaNelle Moore Peacock and her husband Darnell Peacock and son Edward Lee Peacock.
He is survived by his devoted wife Donna; daughter Dana Susan Chiodo, son-in-law Tommy Chiodo and granddaughter Cara Chiodo, of Austin; his son David Moore and wife Karen of Amarillo and grandsons Burke Moore and wife Ling of San Francisco and Jacob Moore of Denton; brother Phil Moore and wife Sheryl, niece Traci Bentley, husband Cory, their children Preslie and Ethan of Amarillo; and nephew Marty Moore, wife Deidra, and children Kayln, Alyssa, and Blake of Oklahoma City; and nephew Jon Peacock of Lago Vista; sister-in-law Theda Nall Hardwick, nephews Will and Don Hardwick (wife Joann), and nieces Nicole, Michelle, and Angelina Hardwick; beloved extended family Brad, Branden, Stacie, and Warren Sain of Amarillo, and Madeline, Danny, Kelby and Hannah Rowe of Dripping Springs; and a special “South African Daughter,” Vicki Pinkney-Atkinson and her son, David, foreign exchange students who lived with Don’s family and are greatly loved. He also leaves behind many beloved cousins and friends.
