Donald Soya, 85, of Amarillo died Friday, November 3, 2017.
Services will be private. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St., Amarillo.
Donald was born on August 13, 1932 in New York City, NY to Walter and Catherine Soya. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy and was Honorably Discharged after 4 years.
He attended trade school to be a sheet metal mechanic and was a member of Local #28 in New York City for over 60 years. He worked on the World Trade Center and later on the Ellis Island renovation.
Donald married Marion Burns in Queens, NY in 1958. They lived in Hazlet, N.J. for more than 30 years. Donald and Marion were together for over 60 years, and enjoyed traveling together which took them to 6 different continents. In his spare time, Donald enjoyed bowling, bingo and baseball. He was a big fan of the New York Yankees.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents and his dear wife, Marion.
He is survived by one son, Dr. Gary Soya and wife Susan of Amarillo; two daughters; Celeste and husband Thomas Libbin of Amarillo, and Heather and husband Carl Rehn of Piscataway, N.J.; seven grandchildren, Mary Beth, Daniel and Kyle Soya, Alek and Ryan Libbin, and Carl and Nicholas Rehn.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Ronald McDonald House of Amarillo, 1501 Streit Dr., Amarillo, Texas 79106.
