Dora Pohlmeier, 87, of Amarillo died Saturday,December 6, 2014 in Amarillo.
Rosary and vigil will be said at 7:00 p.m. today at St. Thomas Catholic Church of Amarillo. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2014 in Holy Family Catholic Church of Nazareth with the Rev. Ken Keller as Celebrant and Deacon Bobby Birkenfeld assisting. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St., Amarillo, Texas.
Dora was born June 2, 1927 in Nazareth, Texas to Ben and Lizzie Birkenfeld. June 2nd was a special date for Dora’s family. Dora was born on her mother’s birthday, and her oldest daughter, Beth was also born on this day as well as her granddaughter, Erika.
She married Philip Pohlmeier on Feb. 19, 1946. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her extended family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Philip; four sisters, Petronilla Birkenfeld, Mary Hoelting, Marcella Birkenfeld, and Julianna Brockman; three brothers, Walter Birkenfeld, John Birkenfeld and Thomas Birkenfeld and two son-in-laws; Lester Schulte and Gerald Harder.
Survivors include five sons, Greg Pohlmeier and wife Linda and Frank Pohlmeier and wife Sharon of Amarillo, Walt Pohlmeier and wife Lucy of Tulia, Ralph Pohlmeier and wife Emaline of Yukon, Ok., and Robert Pohlmeier and wife Teri of Castle Rock, Colorado; four daughters; Beth Schulte-Harder of New Braunfels, Theresa Rider and husband Gary of Amarillo, Rita Pohlmeier of Denver, Co., and Germaine Witt and husband John of Henderson, Nevada; and 29 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
