Dorothy Jean Cazzell

April 20, 1927 — March 2, 2009

Dorothy was born April 20, 1927, in Celeste, Texas, to James R. and Amal Brasher.
Dorothy graduated from Oklahoma College for Women and obtained her Master’s Degree from the University of Oklahoma.  She taught school in Gracemont, OK, Norman, OK, Colorado City, TX and Hobbs, NM before moving to Amarillo in August of 1968.  She married Richard L. Cazzell, an Amarillo attorney, on April 27, 1973.  At the time of her retirement, she was Program Director for National Dairy Council over 37 counties of West Texas and Western Oklahoma.  National Dairy Council sponsors nutrition research and develops education materials.  She was a member of both the Texas and American Home Economists Association and Texas State Nutrition Council, where she was Public Relations Chairman for the Texas State Nutrition Council.  She was also Foods and Nutrition Chairman of the West Texas Home Economists in Business.  She served on the committee of Health, Education and Welfare for the Women’s Division of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce.  When in New Mexico, she served on the Governor’s State Youth Conference.
She also served as Vice President of the Amarillo Women’s Division of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce.  In New Mexico, she served on the Governor’s State Youth Conference.  She served as Treasurer, Tournament Chairman, Vice President and then President of the Ladies Golf Association of the Amarillo Country Club.  She was also a member of Amarillo Lawyers’ Wives Auxiliary and Polk Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Kaye (Mrs. John) Keating, of Amarillo; two sisters, Betty Crider and Patsy George of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a brother Bill Brasher of Hobbs, New Mexico; a great-grandson, Brock Conner of Weatherford, Texas; a step-daughter, Victoria Cazzell DeBerry of Dripping Springs, Texas; a grandson, Richard DeBerry of Fort Worth; and two granddaughters Lee DeBerry and Sarah DeBerry Caperton, of Austin, Texas.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard L. Cazzell on February 7, 1998, and her granddaughter, Lori Brock Conner, on October 12, 2007.
