Dorothy Eaton

March 26, 1921 — April 29, 2013

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 4 at  Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel with the Rev. Lowell Schmidt officiating.  Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.

Dorothy Eaton was born March 26, 1921, in Pittsburg, Kansas, to Henry Sherman and Irene Pease Sherman.  Her parents took her to church as a baby, and she continued attending church her entire life.  She started singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School at the age of 14.  She and her sister Mildred sang together for years in church and on local gospel radio programs.  She graduated from Pittsburg High School.

During World War II, Dorothy met a sailor named Harry Eaton, and they married on June 20, 1944.  Together they raised four children: one daughter and three sons.  Dorothy was a stay-at-home mom and enjoyed spending time with her family.  Harry’s work took them to various places around the country, so the family lived in cities including Chicago, IL, Dayton, OH, Tucson, AZ, Albuquerque, NM, and Dallas, TX, before moving in 1976 to Amarillo, where they were members of South Georgia Church of the Nazarene.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Irene Sherman, and by her husband, Harry Eaton.

She is survived by her children, Margie Eaton Pickett and husband Clark of Maryland; Larry Eaton and wife Connie of Kentucky; Casey Eaton; Bud Eaton and wife Melinda of Amarillo; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her sister Mildred Bishop of Ohio.

The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m., Friday, May 3, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be sent to South Georgia Church of the Nazarene, 5016 Susan, Amarillo, TX 79110; or to Olivia’s Angels c/o Harrington Cancer Foundation, 1600 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106.
