Jo Rush Mozola of Amarillo died December 18, 2013 at age 66.
The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 20, 2013 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Amarillo with Clay Brown, pastor, officiating. Private Family interment will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are provided by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Jo was born November 26, 1947 in Houston, Texas. She spent the majority of her childhood in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo High School. She obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee, studying humanities and Latin.
She married John Mozola in 1972, and shortly thereafter returned to Amarillo. Jo taught at Bowie Middle School until her first daughter, Erin, was born in 1975. In 1980, her second daughter, Jamie, was born. Jo dedicated her time to raising her family and to her civic and community commitments. Jo was most passionate about volunteering her talents as a teacher, volunteering in the elementary school classrooms as a Latin teacher and volunteering for the AISD, where she developed a vocabulary enrichment program. Jo also volunteered her time at the Clements Prison Unit where she taught vocabulary in the GED programs for prisoners. In 2003, she was awarded the Governor’s Volunteer Service Award for this work. Jo was active in PEO, Junior League and her Sunday School class at Westminster Presbyterian Church, and was an accomplished artist using unique media.
Jo was pre-deceased by her sister, Nancy Chandler Rush. She is survived by her husband, John Mozola, her daughters, Jamie Shouse and Erin Bunkley, her grandchildren, Tom Bunkley IV, Avery Jane Shouse and Claire Chandler Shouse, and her parents, Janie and Avery Rush, Jr. She is also survived by her siblings, Dr. Avery Rush III and Carol Stewart and Lynn Rush. Additionally, she is survived by numerous cousins and nieces and nephews including Dr. Jave Rush, Dr. Ryan Rush and Dr. Sloan Rush of Amarillo.
