Dorothy Pitts, age 89 of Amarillo died March 5, 2013.
Funeral Services are Friday, 1:00 P.M. at Arden Road Baptist Church with Pastor Dale Bigham officiating. Burial is at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Dorothy was born July 22, 1923 in Henrietta, Texas to Dale Vernon and Edna Mae (Allison) Shelnutt. She married Shirley Hill Pitts on October 21, 1941.
She was active in organizing and building Calvary Baptist Church in Canyon. She assisted in organizing a church library at Claude Texas and organizing a chapter of child evangelism in Amarillo. She was Social Chairman of P.T.A. at Will Rogers School and was a school crossing guard for the City of Amarillo. Dorothy was also employed at Sears Drapery Shop for several years as well as Gunn Brothers Stamp store. She was manager of Religious Bookstore at Sunset Center and was a member of Arden Road Baptist church.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001; both parents and two children; Dale Pitts of Denver and Barbara (Pitts) Spain of Amarillo; three sisters, Letha Brackenridge of Grand Saline, Texas, Billie Lewis of Nashville and Doris Searcy of San Diego, California.
Dorothy is survived by one daughter, Shirley Peters of Amarillo; son Leland Pitts of Tool, Texas; 7 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive guests Thursday from 6-7:00 PM at the funeral home.
