Doyle Cottrell

Doyle R. Cottrell, age 79 of Amarillo died July 4, 2016 in Amarillo.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM at Llano Cemetery on Thursday, July 7th.  Brother Orville Cottrell of Cottrell Mission Church in Oklahoma will officiate.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.

Doyle was born on July 20, 1936 in Oklahoma City, OK to Leo and Rose Lee Baker Cottrell.  He worked for Brown & Root and Curtis Construction as a carpenter until his retirement.  Doyle’s favorite holiday was Thanksgiving because he loved to cook.  His cooking drew the family home.

On June 13, 1976 he married Jean Gill in Albuquerque. The couple enjoyed spending quiet times together with their animals and gardening.  They grew tomatoes, okra, cucumbers and beans.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother LaRoy Cottrell.

Doyle is survived by his wife of forty years, Jean; his two sons,  James Richard Cottrell and his wife Paula of Marshall and Monty Ray of Davis, OK; his three sisters, Laveta Sommers of Stratford, OK, Darlene Henson of Cambridge, Minnesota and Arlene Mink of Sulpher, OK; his three brothers, Raymond Cottrell of Blanchard, OK, Syl Cottrell of Stratford, OK and Orville Dean Cottrell of Stratford, OK; and his step-daughter, Tomi Miller of Amarillo; his grandchildren; Derek Cottrell, Chase and Chance Cottrell Monti Jo Smith, Journey Smith, Stormi Posey; and his great grandchildren, Jackson Ray Cottrell, Kyler Henry and Zariaah Welch.
