Dudley was born on December 21, 1939, in Brush, Colorado, to Howard and Alice (Fedderson) Smith. He attended Brush High School in Brush, Colorado. On October 5, 1958, he exchanged vows with Sandra (Sandy) Bower in Fort Morgan, Colorado, and the two set off to build their lives together. Dudley and Sandy moved to Ft. Collins, Colorado, shortly after their first two children were born so Dudley could attend veterinarian school at Colorado State University. After graduating in July 1969 and adding one more child in 1968 to the family, they set out to Gering, Nebraska, where Dudley started practicing veterinarian medicine. The family stayed in Nebraska, where Dudley continued to practice medicine, focusing primarily on large animals.
In 1985 Dudley, Sandy, and Melany, his youngest daughter, moved to Amarillo, Tx, where he started to work for Boehringer Ingelheim as their Sr. Technical Service Manager. Dudley retired in his 60s, and he and Sandy continued to enjoy their farm and farm life in Amarillo, TX. Dudley enjoyed teaching his kids how to ride and how to rope when they were younger. But his primary mission later in life was keeping Sandy on good horses and helping her continue her riding passion. He was always her number-one fan!!
Dudley is preceded in death by his parents Howard and Alice Smith, brother Richard Smith and wife, Sandra Smith. Those left to cherish his memories are his daughters Lynlee Smith-Foster and husband Tracy, and Melany Smith-Correa and husband Jimmy, son Bret Smith; and grandchildren Kaylah Potter and husband Mark, Allie Smith, Keelan Chattan and husband Robert, Brock Correa, Carder Correa, Kassie Foster, Ashlyn Correa, and Jayme Smith Knapp, and Great Granddaughter Kora.
