Dr. Frank A. Hudson, Ph.D

Dr. Frank Hudson, PhD, age 94, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2018 in Amarillo.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.

He was born December 15, 1923 in Gallup, New Mexico, to Arthur James Hudson and Marcella Fahrig Hudson.  After the death of his father and at the age of six Frank was sent to live with his Aunt in Chicago, Illinois.  After graduation from high school in Chicago and during WWII, he was drafted into the US Army.  During the Okinawa campaign in the Pacific he was awarded the Purple Heart after suffering wounds from an enemy hand grenade.  He continued to serve on Okinawa and later was a part of the occupational forces in Japan.  He was honorably discharged from the Army after the end of the war and he later promoted to Captain while in the Army Reserves.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Arizona State University, a master’s degree in science from New Mexico State University, and his Doctorate of Philosophy from Oregon State University.  In 1960 he married Elizabeth Townsend and they located to Lubbock, Texas where he began working as a professor in Texas Tech University’s Animal Science department.  While a professor he most enjoyed working with students as he served as the college’s Faculty Sponsor to the Texas Tech Student Rodeo Association.

He and his wife were members of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Lubbock.

Frank is survived by his son, David Hudson and wife Sue of Amarillo; daughter Kathleen Hudson of Lubbock; grandson Jim Denholm and wife Melanie of Austin; grandson Brian Hudson and wife Sarah of Amarillo; and granddaughter Sara Hudson of Denver, Colo.
