Earl John Britten, 83 of Groom died Tuesday, August 15, 2017.

Rosary will be said 7:30 p.m., Friday, August 18, 2017 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Groom, Texas. Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 19, 2017, at the church with Rev. Raj Samala as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Groom, Texas. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St., Amarillo, Texas 79110.

Earl was born July 25, 1934 in Groom, Texas to Joseph and Clara Britten. He attended St. Mary’s Elementary School through 8th grade then Groom High School, graduating class of 1952. Earl earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M University. After finishing school he served in the United States Army. Earl worked for Frank Phillips and Southwestern Public Service prior to farming in Groom. He was a member of the Groom Lions Club and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Claudine Britten in 1989.

Earl is survived by a dear friend, Toni Brasher of Panhandle, TX; three sisters, Ruth Swayze and husband Kenneth of Wylie, TX, Evelyn Putman of Wylie, TX and Germaine Meyer of Dalhart, TX; one brother, Maurice “Cobb” Britten and wife Kay of Groom, TX; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
