Edna A. Allen, 100, of Amarillo, died on Sunday, February 5, 2017 in Amarillo.

Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Llano Cemetery with Rev. Bob Schroeder officiating.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St..

Edna was born on December 13, 1916 on a farm in Claude to Charles and Blanch Hamel. No electricity or plumbing, raising/growing all their own food, she was the last of a pioneer generation.  The first born of 8 children, and the last to go, she saw every one of her siblings born and pass from this earth.

Edna and her husband Norman owned Stockyard Service and Garage for 40 years. Though she had no children of her own, the number of young lives she influenced is countless.  A gifted artist, seamstress, gourmet cook, and savvy business woman, her talents never went unnoticed. Her tenacity as a strong willed woman kept her living independently in her own home past age 100.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman; her parents; three brothers; and four sisters.

Edna is survived by several nieces and nephews, Carolyn Hurt of Amarillo, Mark Hamel of Carlsbad, NM, Charles Leard, Betty Guidroz, and Sandy Maggio, all of Orange; and several great nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials be made to High Plains Children’s Home, 11461 South Western, Amarillo, Texas 79118.
