Edward M. Perry, 92, of Amarillo died July 17, 2019
Edward was born in Manhattan, NY on February 25, 1927, son of Francis Hubert Perry and Philomena (Vieira) Perry. As a small child, he was raised in British Guyana, South America and attended Anna Catherina, Church of England School. At the age of 21, he returned to the States and enlisted in the United States Air Force. After completion of basic training, he was assigned to Scott Air Force base in Illinois and specialized in ground communication maintenance.
In 1964, Edward was assigned to 1978 Communication Group as a non-commissioned officer in charge of ground radio systems. He served 18 years in the United States Air Force and attained the grade of Master Sargent E-7. He retired from the Air Force and re-enlisted in the United States Army in Fort Monmouth New Jersey in the Army Signal School. He went on to serve five years in the United States Army and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer W2. While serving his country in the military, he had several assignments and tours of duty that took him to New York, New Jersey, Texas, Mississippi, Alaska, Korea, Japan, Canada, Vietnam (2 tours) and Germany. He received two letters of appreciation, one letter of commendation, a bronze star - Vietnam, and an Army commendation medal - Vietnam.
Edward married in 1960 to former Ethel “Agnes” Alleyne from Anna Catherina, British Guyana. They had three children, Edward Perry, Ellen Perry-Burgess, and Marie Perry-Dyer. After retirement from the military, Edward worked for the Department of Energy at Mason and Hanger Pantex Plant in Amarillo. He retired from Pantex after 21 years as a Electronic Shop Supervisor. Once fully retired, he started a new adventure as he traveled the world with the love of his life, Agnes, and spent time with his family and friends while sharing countless stories of his life.
Survived by his sister Gloria Williams, son Edward Perry, daughters Ellen Perry-Burgess and husband Willie and Marie Perry-Dyer and husband Frank, grandchildren Lorielle, William, Nichole, Amber and great grandchildren Isabel and Sebastian.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife Agnes and is granddaughter Danielle along with many other family members.
At the young age of 92, he lived a long beautiful life and is now with his beloved wife in heaven. Their life was a true love story in every aspect - kindergarten sweethearts that ended up living on two different continents and were reunited to fall in love again. My brother, sister and I are truly blessed to have amazing parents who taught us how to be kind, compassionate, giving and loving. We love you and will miss you dearly.
