Eleanor Beth Garrett, 88, died on December 1, 2014 in Denton, Texas.
Eleanor was born in Roswell, NM on April 18, 1926 to Almer E. and Elizabeth Miller Daugherty. She was the oldest of seven children and grew up on a ranch in Boaz, New Mexico. She attended school in a one room schoolhouse and later taught her brothers and sisters in the same schoolhouse. She married Lester Raymond (Jack) Garrett on October 10, 1946 and moved to Amarillo in 1952. Eleanor was an active member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church and was a devoted volunteer with Meals on Wheels and Harrington Cancer Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, of 44 years and four brothers.
Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Betsy Walker, and husband, Dale, of Denton; two sons, Ben Garrett and wife, Chris, of Scottsdale, AZ and Bob Garrett and wife, Connie, of Amarillo; two sisters Amelia Akin and husband, Wyman, of Carthage, TX and Martha Ford of Roswell, NM; and eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 5:00 – 6:00 p.m., Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Schooler Funeral Home. Private family interment will be held at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia, Amarillo, TX.
The family suggests memorials be made to Meals on Wheels of Amarillo or your favorite charity.
