Elizabeth Ann “Betsy” Lackey Northrup of Amarillo, died Sunday, May 2, 2010. –arrangements—Betsy was born July 19, 1936 in Tucumcari, New Mexico to Hugh and Ann Lackey. Betsy graduated from Amarillo High School in 1954. After graduation, she worked in the registrar’s office while attending classes at Texas Tech University. Betsy returned to Amarillo where she worked and retired as a Bank Officer at Amarillo National Bank after 26 years of service in 2004. In the years after her retirement, Betsy volunteered at Northwest Texas Hospital and was a member of St. Stephens United Methodist Church in Amarillo all while keeping family members “in-line”. Lovingly called “The Queen” by those that knew her best, Betsy brightened the lives of everyone who knew her. She set an example of how to live and love life through admirable qualities such as courage, strength, tolerance, love, and compassion. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, Fred Warren. Betsy is survived by three children, Melinda Northrup of Dallas, Amy Pairis and Sara Northrup of Amarillo, one brother, Bill Lackey of Amarillo, two sisters, Nan Sullivan of Orange Park, Florida, and, Kay Sheffield of Amarillo, one grandson, Kevin Pairis of Amarillo and several nieces and nephews. Other members of the family include Chuck Pairis and Leigh Browning, both of Amarillo. Betsy gave her love and support to numerous “adopted” daughters and sons and many special friends.
