Ellis Wayne Grant

Mr. Grant grew up on a cotton farm in Geary, Oklahoma and attended Geary schools. Hewon all district in pole vaulting, liked to ride horses, play baseball and read.He moved to a farm near Hart, Texas in July 1942 then he made his permanent address inAmarillo, Texas where he worked on the construction of Pantex Ordinance Plant. Hebecame a line foreman at the plant making 105mm shells during WW II .He was thencalled into the service November 1944. He served two years in the 83rd Seabee Battalionat Pearl Harbor, China and the Philippines.After the war he became a bus driver for New Mexico Transportation Co. where heworked for 49 years. He set a driving record of 5,000,000 miles without an accident.Mr. Grant was preceded in death by his mother, father, sister, seven brothers, his wife,Maxine Grant, who passed away November 30, 2007 and a son David who passed awayin 2000.Mr. Grant is survived by two daughters, Pat Matthews and Judy Wallar, both of Amarillo.Seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.The family would like to thank all of Mr. Grants' healthcare team at Hospice of theSouthwest and the staff at Bluebonnet Assisted Living.
