Elnora Guthrie

June 24, 1923 — November 15, 2014

Elnora B. Guthrie was born to Henry Griff and Lillie May Boyles on June 24, 1923 near Turkey, Texas. She went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, November 15, 2014. At the time of her death she was living in Amarillo.

Memorial Services will be at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at First Baptist Church with Rev. T. Don Guthrie and Alan Williamson officiating. Private Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Early in life, Elnora’s family moved to a farm south of Sudan, Texas where she went to high school, graduating in 1941. She attended business school in Lubbock; worked in civil service at the airbase near Lubbock and later enrolled at Texas Tech, pursuing a degree in Child Development.

In March of 1949, she met Albert W. “Ira” Guthrie and they were married on August 28, 1949. To this union were born two sons and one daughter. The family moved to Amarillo in 1956. Elnora worked for Woodruff, Moore, Motley Insurance Company and later as a secretary at Paramount Baptist, where her family were members.

Elnora loved traveling, shopping, camping and playing Bridge but her first love was always her Lord and her family, who knew her as “Nanaw”.

She is survived by her husband Ira; son Jim and his wife Diane of Beaumont; son Don and his wife Holly of San Antonio; daughter Diane and her husband Brad of Amarillo; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Zanelle Martin and Louis Boyles and a brother Bill Boyles of Sudan.

Elnora, along with husband Ira, were members of First Baptist Church Amarillo. At her death, she and Ira were residents of Ware Living Center. The previous six years, they lived at Park Place Towers.
