Emmett "Strick" Strickland Watkins

Emmett Strickland “Strick” Watkins, 81, of Amarillo, died Thursday, April 26, 2018.

Family will receive friends, Monday, April 30, 2018 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM at their residence.

At the request of Strick, services will be for family only.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to their charity of choice.

Strick was born February 8, 1937 to Emmett and Hazel Watkins in Meadow, TX.  He married Carolyn Donley on August 27, 1960 in Carlsbad, NM.  He was a graduate of Texas Tech University and worked for the City of Amarillo for 32 years, the majority of which he was the Director of Parks and Recreation. After retiring from the city, he served as a Potter County Commissioner for 8 years.

Strick also served in the Army National Guard in the 1960s.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Wilda Lasley; and a brother, Jack Watkins.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of 57 years and children, Jim Watkins, John Watkins and Darcy Wieberg.  He is also survived by two siblings, Dwayne Watkins and Mary Gail Nickols; two grandchildren, Preston Watkins, Christopher Watkins and Christopher’s mother Tonya Watkins.
