Ernest Walker, 85, of Amarillo died January 17, 2022.
Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Hillside Christian Church Chapel, 6100 Soncy. Private inurnment will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.
Ernest was born December 12, 1936 in Vega, TX to Forrest and Peggy Walker. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1955. Ernest operated the Shamrock Filling Station at 36th & Bowie for several years before he founded Amarillo Dragway in 1959. Around 1970, he opened Boots ‘n Jeans, officially retiring in 1995.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kelly Kaye Walker Saunders; former wife, Kaye Walker Greb; and longtime companion, Nancy Johnson.
He is survived by sons, Kevin Eugene Walker and wife, Victoria of Arlington, TX and Kameron Isaac Walker and wife, Jill of Amarillo, TX; sister, Betty Bryant of Amarillo, TX; brothers, Ray Walker of Bakersfield, CA and Horace Walker of South Fork, CO; son-in-law, Richard Saunders of Angel Fire, NM; and grandchildren, Amanda Saunders, Erin Saunders, Eric Saunders, Jackson Walker, Caroline Walker, Campbell Walker, and Channing Walker.
