Ervin Lax 77, of Amarillo, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2013 after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 21, in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel with the Rev. Joe Cofer officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Ervin was born on January 16, 1936 in Frederick, Tillman County, Oklahoma. He was one of eight children born to Timothy Lax Sr. and Myrtle Gaines Lax. He attended public school in Frederick Oklahoma. He married Nettie Brown, on July 16, 1955 and to this union there were seven children born. Ervin was a mechanic here in Amarillo for many years. He began his career working as a mechanic for Battenfield Motors from 1959-1965. He then started his own company, Action Auto, with a well-known saying, “We fix anything from day break to heart ache.” Ervin was a faithful member of Jenkins Chapel Baptist Church serving as a Deacon and on the Usher Board. He was also a member of the Amarillo React Club (Radio Emergency Associated Communication Team).
Ervin was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers Huldon Lax, Raymond Lax, and Timothy Lax Jr.; a sister Ella Mae Stevenson; and a son Richard Earl Lax.
Ervin leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Nettie Lax; three sons Nathaniel Lax and wife Sheila, Charles Lax and wife Carol, Terry Lax and wife Connie; three daughters Quincy Brown and husband Charles, Brenda Gaut, and Donna Jackson, all of Amarillo; three sisters Lillie Bell Wilborn of Frederick, Oklahoma, Bernice Woods and husband Lonnie of Amarillo, and Dorothy Smith of Denver, Colorado; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Visitation is from 6-7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 20, at Schooler Funeral Home.
