Evelyn Armstrong

May 30, 1935 — November 5, 2011

A Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Lakewood Village church of Christ, located at 5100 Randol Mill Road, Ft. Worth, Texas  76112 with her grandson, Nic Belcher, officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Amarillo.

Mrs. Armstrong was born to Alva and Myrtle Lamb Miller on May 30, 1935 in Stafford, Kansas.  She graduated from Stafford High School in 1953 and then went to Abilene Christian College, where she met the love of her life, Melvin.

Marriage, children, grandchildren, and ultimately great-grandchildren followed and there were always three constants in her life:  her love for God, her love for her husband and her children, and her love for babies.  This love translated into her starting the first-ever Sunday school nursery at San Jacinto church of Christ, being a foster mom for 27 babies for High Plains Children’s Home, for her work for over 10 years at Northwest Texas Hospital in pediatrics, and ultimately becoming a nanny for the same family for almost 20 years.

Mrs. Armstrong was a long-time member of San Jacinto church of Christ and Central church of Christ in Amarillo, and when she moved to the Dallas area, she became a member of Belt Line Road church of Christ.

Mrs. Armstrong was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Nelda Miller.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Melvin, two daughters and their husbands, Larry and Beckie Belcher of Flower Mound and Donnie and Lisa Bentley of Amarillo; a son, Clark Armstrong of Amarillo, a foster daughter Stephanie Peavler, of Beaumont, Texas, and a brother, George Miller of Scottsdale, Arizona.  Her six grandsons, Ben, Jon, Dan, Nic, Justin, and Jarrod will server as honorary pallbearers.  She was also survived by 6 great-grandchildren and to her great delight, two additional great-grandchildren to be born in 2012.

The family will receive guests from 11am to 12:30pm on Tuesday at Schooler Funeral Home  in Amarillo.

Grave side services will be at 2:00 P.M. in the mausoleum of Memorial Park Cemetery.
