Evelyn was born to Joseph and Clara Britten on April the eleventh, 1933. Upon her graduation from Groom High School, Evelyn and her late sister, Claudine, attended St. Anthony’s Nursing School. After graduating, Evelyn worked in many different aspects of the medical field from Chicago, Illinois to Richardson, Texas. Though she left her sister behind in Amarillo, Evelyn met a very charming man named Kenneth, “Ken,” Putman in the DFW area. The two were wed in 1982. Evelyn and Ken enjoyed their lives together and the company of their many nieces and nephews who adored their “Aunt Evelyn and Uncle Putt”. Though “Ken” died unexpectedly in 1998, Evelyn never lost her vigor for life and dedicated herself to her countless nieces and nephews, not to mention the grandnieces and grandnephews, and her donkeys, Jack, Jill, and Jenney.
After many years of living in Wylie, Texas, Evelyn returned to Amarillo, Texas in Autumn 2018 to be near her close family, especially the grandnieces and grandnephews whom she cared for deeply.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her dear parents, Joseph and Clara Britten, her caring sister, Claudine, her loving husband, “Ken” Putman, and her brother Earl Britten, and her beloved sister Ruth and husband Kenneth “K.C.” Swayze.
Surviving Evelyn is her dear sister, Germaine Meyer of Stratford, Texas and brother Maurice “Cobb” Britten and his wife, Kay, of Groom, Texas.
The family would also like to extend a gracious thank you to Ruby Slippers, especially Christina who was Evelyn’s favorite, for being there in the final weeks.
In Evelyn’s memory, in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church / Building Fund PO Box 130 Groom, Texas 79039. If you do not feel it within your heart to donate, you should expect to find a famous “Evelyn letter” in your mailbox.
