Evelyn Louise Thomas age 93 of Amarillo died Tuesday January 18, 2011 Funeral Service will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday January 21, 2011 at Bell Avenue Church Of Christ with Mister Glen Walton officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home 4100 S Georgia St.Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home from 7 to 8 P. M. Thursday January 20, 2011.Mrs. Thomas, better known to everyone as Granny, born June 24, 1917 in Round Rock, Texas to Cora Olive and Anthony Austin Reeves. She graduated from Victory High School in Duke, Oklahoma in 1937. She married L.V. Thomas Sr., on September 21, 1939 in Hereford, Texas and soon thereafter moved to Amarillo.She was employed as a nurse’s aide at Northwest Texas Hospital and later at W.T. Grants Department store. In 1972, she received her commercial driver’s license and joined her husband as a long-haul truck driver. They drove for Dwight Cheek trucking for many years, retiring in 1990.Mrs. Thomas was a faithful member of North Amarillo Church of Christ.Everyone loved Granny because of her fun-loving spirit. Her competitive nature was apparent during a “friendly” game of 42, skip-bo, or bingo with family and friends. Granny showed her strength through her devotion and caring ways for her family. We think she was the best mother, and granny ever and she will be greatly missed.She was preceded in death by her husband, L.V. Thomas Sr. in 2004, a son, L.V. Thomas Jr. in 1966, a grandson, Heath Wright in 1985.Survivors include, three daughters, Charlene Flow, Brenda Fox, and Melba Glass and husband, Dennis, all of Amarillo; a son, Tony Thomas and wife, Janice of Cheyenne, Wy; a sister-in-law, Wannie Stevens of Albuquerque, NM; 10 grandchildren; 24 great- grandchildren; and 10 great- great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.Family suggest memorials be made to BSA Hospice C/O Olivia’s Angels, P.O.
