Fayma was born on July 13, 1938, to her parents, Henry and Gladys Bowen Downey. She graduated from McCaulley High School and went on to get her degree in education from Texas Woman's University. On December 26, 1959, at the age of twenty-one, she married her beloved Don Drummond, in Hamlin. Throughout her forty-one-year career in education, she taught primarily third grade, retiring from the Hamlin Independent School District. Homemaking and teaching went hand in hand for Fayma. She was an impeccable homemaker, a talented seamstress, and an excellent cook.
No matter what challenges she may have faced, Fayma's generous and loving nature, as well as her unwavering faith, served as an inspiration to many. Fayma's signature saying was, "I love you more than you love me, and you're full of purple mud!" Family was most important to her, and her favorite time was Christmas, as she knew it would be a time when her family would gather together.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jack Downey; two grandchildren, Laura Serafini and Ashley Meagher; and her husband, Don.
Fayma is survived by her two daughters, Tonya Goelzer and her husband Jeremy of Amarillo and LaDon Serafini and her husband Giorgio of Los Angeles, California; two grandchildren, Abbey Meagher and Johnny Serafini; and two great-grandchildren, Jaxson Moore and Llera Chase.
Fayma loved her church and her church family; in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to The Church at Quail Creek in her honor.
