Fern Ellanora Lanier

March 27, 1918 — December 12, 2012

Fern Ellanora Finkner Lanier, of Amarillo died Wednesday, December 12, 2012.

Graveside Services will be at Memorial Park Cemetery at 11:00 AM on Saturday December 15, 2012.  Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery and arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.

Fern was born March 27, 1918 to Alma Marie Krause and George Michael Finkner in Floydada, Texas. She married Sam Houston Lanier, Jr. September 17, 1940. They divorced in January 1967.

Fern earned a B.A. from Texas Wesleyan College in 1940. She worked in various jobs, including as a crossing guard and in a craft shop. She also worked for the Amarillo Public Library and retired from there in 1971.

Fern was a long-time member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and was very active in church work most of her adult life. She also enjoyed making crafts. Fern was a resident of Bivins Memorial Nursing Home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Esther Colville, and son Richard Lanier.

She is survived by her daughter Rita Glenn and husband Victor of Amarillo; five grandchildren, David Lanier and wife Janet of Carbondale, CO; Karen Lanier of Lexington, KY; Monica Norris Glenn of Lubbock, TX; Alison Glenn of Amarillo, and Stuart Glenn of Amarillo.

The family suggests memorials be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 2304, Amarillo, TX 79105.
