Florence Margaret Helms

Florence was born December 16, 1916 to James F and Unice DeFliger Handly.  She graduated from high school at St Mary’s Academy in 1935 and from Amarillo College with a degree in nursing.  She lived in Amarillo most of her life and retired from nursing at Northwest Texas Hospital, Pavillion.  She also worked at the State Center.  She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and worked in the St Veronica’s and St. Luke’s Circles.  She was a member of the Women of the Moose for over fifty years and a member of St. Mary’s Alumnae.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 53 years, Robert S Helms, and her brothers Hank, James (Toot) and Paul Handley and her sisters, Mary Watson, Ann Palmer and Eunice Lutz.
She is survived by her son, Robert C (Butch) Helms and daughter Margaret (Peggy) Wanderscheid and husband Jerry of Rockport, Tx; eight grandchildren, Deborha Adcox and husband Gregg of Amarillo, Robert A Wanderscheid and wife Shanna of Maricopa, Az, Robert G Helms and wife Denise of Azle, Tx, Carla Sigismondi and her husband Alberto of Milano, Italy, Micheal Helms of Austin, Chris Helms and wife Laurie of Wimberly, Tx and Margaret of Austin, Tx and Dianna Apinure of Austin, Tx. She also has eleven great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
