Forrest Wayne “Dugan” Jones Sr, age 98 of Amarillo died June 18, 2016.
Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, June 21st at 10:00 AM at Brentwood Chapel at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia. Rev. Damon Akins of Dumas will officiate. Private interment will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.
Forrest was born in Wellington, Texas on January 30, 1918 to Henley and Mattie Mooney Jones. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1936. He married Emily Smith on May 1st, 1938 in Amarillo. It was a love affair that would last over the next 76 years until her death in 2014.
In 1942, Forrest enlisted in the US Navy and served during WWII. In 1948 he was honored to be named Father of the Year in Amarillo, by the Amarillo Globe News. He was a man of his word and truly one
of the last of the “Greatest Generation.” He lived his life honorably; loving and cherishing his family and friends.
Forrest was survived by his four children; his two sons, Forrest Wayne Jones Jr and his wife Lynda of Amarillo and Alan David Jones and his wife Vicki of Port Isabel, Texas; his two daughters, Carolyn Jones and Margaret Nelson and her husband Tom all of Amarillo; seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Meals on Wheels or BSA Hospice Care of the Southwest.
