Forrest Stone, Jr., 85, of Amarillo died, Sunday, May 27, 2012.
Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 4100 South Coulter with Father Daniel Dreher as celebrant. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Vigil will be said Tuesday, May 29 from 6:00-7:00 pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
Mr. Stone was born April 2, 1927 in Tipp City (formerly Tippecanoe) OH to Forrest and Minnie Stone. He was the oldest of five children. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1944 and enjoyed a military career for 21 years. He was in the Army Security Agency (deciphering codes). He married the love of his life, Elizabeth A. Stone on November 21, 1953 in Chicago, Il. They moved to Amarillo in 1968 and called it “home”. They were married for over 58 years.
Forrest retired from Bell Helicopter after 20 years of service in 1989. He and Elizabeth were one of the founding families of St. Thomas.
Preceded in death by parents and a brother, Claude.
Forrest is survived by his spouse, Elizabeth; five children Ronald P. Stone and friend Michael Sugden, Mary Catherine Puckett and husband Jimmy, Jeannie Abernathy and husband Tom Salinas, Theresa Heflin and partner Julie Bruce, Linda Peters and husband Mark; seven grandchildren, Laura Abernathy, Robert Abernathy and wife Shelley, Joey Abernathy, Gracie Peters, Katie Peters, Kenneth Puckett and Kimberly Puckett; four great grandchildren, Jenifer Ray Puckett, Alyssa Abernathy, Kaleb Abernathy and Devon Abernathy; one sister, Betty Jane Lisle of Ocala Fl and two brothers, Richard Stone of Troy OH and Edward Stone of Kissimmee FL.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Interim Hospice nurses, especially Tammy, Kristie, Sandy, Oscar and Amy.
